in kotor 2 its evidently made out to be the antagonistic element (combined with human nature being inherently selfish). the exile could use the force as a tool rather than as a slave to its will, while this plays counter to the idea of the mainstream force being a good thing. the jedi code was also introduced and was a major part of the philosophical nature of discerning the force and how one should live their life in relation to it. kotor 1 was where the sith were given an actual idealogical foundation that went beyond just being evil for the sake of it. kotor 1 & 2 were good because prior to these games the lore and backstory was relatively vague and consisted of books and comics (and the OT movies). Kotor 2 is a great example of what can be accomplished when the story is interesting but manages to go beyond the simple good vs evil trope. we never got a synthesis beyond the exile and the cannon exile choose to not follow kriea in the end, nothing was learned, eternal recurrence continues. assuming kreia's teaching persisted and the exile didn't just blow up malacor 5, the problem ofc is that kotor 2 ends in a disappointing way. if kotor 2 had a satisfying ending there wouldn't have been anything after it. I don't see how they could top kotor 2, they wrote that story into a corner but anything Kotor can't have much of an impact on the future story because it would be contradictory.
